Traveling to the United States during covid-19: requirements, vaccinations and what you need to know

The United States is open to receive all fully vaccinated visitors, although there are some specific rules depending on how they enter the country.

This means that unvaccinated travelers from countries that are not within U.S. travel bans will not be allowed to enter.

Unvaccinated travelers crossing the U.S. land borders with Mexico and Canada for essential reasons will be able to enter for some time. But, from January 2022, essential travelers from Mexico and Canada are required to be fully vaccinated.

To be considered fully vaccinated, travelers must have received their second dose (or one dose for a single-dose vaccine) 14 days prior to arrival. In addition, a proof or certificate accrediting vaccination must be presented.

The vaccine must have approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or it must have an emergency use list from the World Health Organization (such as Astrazeneca). Mixed-dose vaccines will also be accepted. Find the full list of accepted vaccines here, plus acceptable proof of vaccination.
